Trillions of Carats Found in Russian Diamond Field reports Nue Diamonds

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Scientists estimate there are “trillions of carats” of diamonds beneath a 35-million-year-old asteroid crater in Siberia - enough to keep the world in supply for 3,000 years. If they are right, that is 10 times the current global inventory. While the discovery is news to most of the world, it has been known to the Kremlin since the 1970s. The Russian government kept the reserves’ existence under the 62-mile-wide impact zone a secret. It did so because it had already been experiencing generous profits in what was, at the time, a tightly controlled diamond market, by manufacturing artificial diamonds. Last weekend, government officials granted scientists from the Novosibirsk Institute of Geology and Mineralogy permission to reveal the crater’s hidden diamonds. Journalists were on hand for the unveiling. According to Russian news agency ITAR-Tass, the diamonds at the site, which the Russians refer to as Popigai Astroblem, are “twice as hard” as the average diamonds, making them highly useful to industrialists and scientists. According to The Christian Science Monitor, the institute's director, Nikolai Pokhilenko, told the agency that the new source would radically change the precious gem market. “The resources of super-hard diamonds contained in rocks of the Popigai crypto-explosion structure are by a factor of 10 bigger than the world's all known reserves,” he said. “We are speaking about trillions of carats. By comparison, present-day known reserves in Yakutia (a Russian mine) are estimated at one billion carats.” The Popigai stones are known as “impact diamonds,” which occur when a large object, such as a meteor, collides with a diamond deposit at a high enough velocity. Experts predict there will be high demand for the unique Russian diamonds. Pokhilenko said: “The value of impact diamonds is added by their unusual abrasive features and large grain size. This expands significantly the scope of their industrial use and makes them more valuable for industrial purposes.” About NueDiamonds.com: NueDiamonds.com (http://www.nuediamonds.com/) creates diamond alternatives using innovation, style and the GIA's strict standards of diamond cutting and grading. Before Nue Diamonds, few people could afford one carat or more in their engagement ring purchase. Nue Diamonds set out to change this by making luxury jewelry affordable for all. This forward-thinking philosophy has changed the face of the diamond industry by creating the perfect marriage between flawless lab created gemstones with high-end platinum, palladium and gold settings. Pastor gives thanks for much needed Plumbing upgrade to Church reports Local Plumbers St Albans

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- An Indiana pastor says God has answered his congregation’s call to upgrade the church. Pastor Gilbert Thornton said the number of parishioners at God’s Way Family Worship Center was declining because the church lacked indoor plumbing and toilets. There are two outhouses behind the church, but they are uncomfortable to use during winter or inclement weather. When he asked his community for help, donations poured in. “I thank God for it. I really do,” Thornton told The Associated Press. He said his church’s two new indoor restrooms could be ready for use by Thanksgiving. “We had two Sunday school rooms, and we’re putting the bathroom in one of them,” the pastor said. The biggest challenges the church faced were setting up lines for water and sewer service, and paying for equipment and labor. “I know it is from God, every bit of it,” Thornton said. “Man can’t get past the obstacles we faced.” He said his church raised $2,050 for the water hookup and $890 for the sewer line. “I haven’t had to come up with a penny,” said Thornton. “We got the water meter and line in, and now the guys are working inside the building.” Tim Spicer is one of the volunteers. He is installing toilets, sinks and flooring at no charge, working on his days off. Thornton offers his thanks to everyone, including to his Lord. “People said I needed to have a fundraiser, and I said, ‘No, He is the fundraiser,” the pastor said, and he pointed to the sky. Colin Farrell Credits Fatherhood for Sobriety, Dealing with Addiction reports Addiction Help

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- When he learned he was about to become a father the first time, Colin Farrell “made a decision” not to stop partying, despite being a “drug-addicted drunk.” Farrell underwent treatment for prescription and recreational addiction in 2005, two years after model Kim Bordenave gave birth to his first child James. Now that he has had several years of sober living under his belt, the Irish-born actor cannot imagine how he managed parenthood under the influence. The November issue of Details magazine features the following remarks from Farrell on the subject: "I made a decision not to change. I literally said, 'I'm not changing! I'm gonna be his friend!' Like a [bleeping] 28-year-old drug-addicted drunk friend is exactly what my six-week-old son needs." Farrell, 36, later had a second son, Henry, with actress Alicja Bachleda-Curu in 2009. He credits his two boys with helping him choose sobriety and said of quitting drugs and alcohol. "I've got eight hours a day now that I didn't have before, when I was drinking every day for 18 years? It's honest, it's real. That's quite simply the coolest thing," he said. Farrell once said James saved his life by causing him to see that he needed to change his hard-partying ways. These days, Ferrell eats a healthy diet and lives generally cleanly, saying he wants to be there for his sons. Satellite Broadband to be made Available Soon in Africa reports Way Path

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Fledgling internet businesses and service providers in Africa will soon have more broadband options. For now, the vast majority of internet service is routed through massive undersea communication cables, thousands of miles of fiber-optic cables run along the beds of the Indian and Pacific oceans. Soon, internet service may come from the sky instead of the sea. The launch of the HYLAS 2 satellite, built by Avanti Communications (a London-based firm) in August brings satellite broadband to the African continent in the coming weeks. The satellite complete initial orbital tests in September and should be ready to enter commercial use soon. The HYLAS 2 will be able to provide small businesses, like internet cafes as well as residential subscribers, speeds of up-to 20Mb/s. Even faster speeds will be available to African communications companies as well as international businesses. Once the satellite is online, Africans will no longer be completely cut off from the world-wide-web during outages caused by damage to undersea fiber-optic cables. A large service outage was caused this February by a severed cabled, damaged when a ship dropped anchor onto the cable while waiting to dock in Mombasa, Kenya. The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation predicts economic benefits from the increase in broadband availability for the continent. The organization says that internet availability is even more important to economic growth than landline telephones. A 10% increase in broadband availability, according to CTO, generates an economic growth of 1.38%, which is nearly twice that of fixed-line telephone service. A second communications satellite is scheduled for launch in 2015, along with the HYLAS 2, and the pair will be able to bring up to 100Gb of capacity to Africa. While the satellite broadband service is likely to be more expensive than traditional broadband, the greater reliability and access will likely make the service popular with internet subscribers. Google Says New Zealand Needs More Business Websites reports Web Box Designers

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- While Wellington’s small- to medium-sized businesses are improving their collective web presence, they are still lagging behind much of the rest of the world, says Google. Only one-third of New Zealand’s small- to medium-sized businesses have websites, despite the fact that eight out of 10 Kiwis look for products and services online. "We are seeing a huge amount of consumers looking for local queries," Google New Zealand country manager Tony Keusgen said. "There are more [searches] for lawyers than Lady Gaga but a real lack of supply of information from small to medium businesses when only a third have a website. It's a huge gaping hole of information." According to Keusgen, internet marketing would help such businesses grow and connect with their respective geographic bases. "For trades, an increasingly large amount of their business is coming off the web,” said Wellington business coach Steve Hockley. “You see them doing very well from something like NoCowboys [a site where people can read reviews by previous customers] so they're using the web more actively than some may think." Cheryl Browne, of Titahi Bay, started her business Different Stroax last year. She sells coffee, food, local art, toys, and clothing. Although she is having a website designed at the moment, she said she wishes she had done so earlier. Decorada, a cake and biscuit baking and decoration business, has enjoyed a web presence from the beginning, said owner Tanya Hugyecz. She dedicated roughly 85% of her marketing budget to Google AdWords, a platform in which a website owner choose keywords it wants associated with its site in internet search results. "I have a keen appreciation for how I needed to get the brand image out there and be known to your customers,” said Hugyecz, whose background is in marketing and web design. Communication Commission finds Mobile Data on the Rise with Kenyan Youth reports Way Path

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- The majority of internet-users in Kenya are young people on mobile devices, according to the Communications Commission of Kenya. Their 2011-2012 report on internet use that was released this week points to younger Kenyans using social media sites. Sites such as Twitter and Facebook as making up the biggest bulk of internet traffic. The report also showed that competition between internet service providers had spurred strong growth in subscription services, up almost 83% over the last year, to 7.7 million people. Land-based fiber-optic connections make up the majority of internet service hardware, putting satellite broadband providers in dire straights for new customers. The higher subscription rates have resulted in an influx of users and more dispersed mobile internet usage. Total internet users in Kenya increased 18.5%, to 14 million people, and internet availability to the total population saw a 35% jump. From the CCK report: “Increased demand for Internet and data services and use of social media especially among the youthful population; competitive tariffs by the mobile operators coupled with aggressive promotional and special offers have driven Internet usage.” Safaricom continued to dominate total market share, with nearly 68% of subscribers, with Airtel Networks Limited coming in second (14% share), and Telkom Kenya Limited third (8.4% share). Airtel picked up 4.5% of the user base in the last year, according to the report, while Safaricom fared less-well, losing 2.3%. Mobile internet and data subscriptions continue near-total domination of internet service types, making up almost 99% of internet services offered in the African nation. Investment in data services will continue to increase as mobile internet companies predict even further demand for data in Kenya as mobile devices become more popular with the public. Expert says Online articles should not be broken into more than one page reports Web Box Designers

0
0
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Breaking up articles and photo galleries into multiple web pages is bad design, even an online “sin” says an online technology expert. The attraction of multi-page articles is that a website can, theoretically, get more clicks out of a single story. And that means more pages to display ads. The problem, according to Farhad Manjoo, a technology columnist for Slate.com, is that it disrespects readers who want to read an article through to the end. Pagination gets in the way of usability and should have been thrown out with music that automatically plays and text that blinks. At Slate magazine, articles must be broken up into separate pages if they go over 1,000 words (Manjoo manages his message in under 900). Many readers and publishers think that multi-page design is the way articles should be, but unfriendly design might not be the best way to grow readership. Articles that are contained on a single page will gain more popularity and be shared more often, to the benefit of the publisher, Manjoo says. And some readers thwart multi-page design anyway, taking advantage of some sites’ single-page buttons. A few popular sites, BuzzFeed and the Verge, for example, have done away with multi-page design. Rather than publish slideshows over many pages, BuzzFeed offers scrolling galleries. At the Verge, advertising staff did not balk at ending pagination. “From the beginning, there’s been a company-wide belief that we can marry great advertising with great content and not have to cheat or trick our users,” Verge editor Joshua Topolsky told Manjoo. “And so far, that’s proven 100% correct. Our traffic has been on a long climb, and I believe advertisers are really beginning to see the true value in engaged users.” The way to handle long articles is through better design. Photographs and other visual elements can be used to break up long text, and navigation buttons can offer readers a way to jump to different parts of the article, Manjoo suggests. It may be worth a try. About WebBoxDesigners.co.uk: WebBoxDesigners.co.uk (http://www.webboxdesigners.co.uk/) is an online resource for Web design and online strategies. JetBlue to Offer Wi-Fi Service on Flights to Meet Modern Demands reports Way Path

0

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The ability to connect to the internet during flight has become a major factor of choosing an airline, so JetBlue is looking to take advantage of that fact. Having internet connection is a strong asset and valuable one for those who are travelling on business. Staying connected is often the key to optimal efficiency and falling behind in many businesses. Thus, many such business customers will choose an airline that offers online service, even if said service is hit-and-miss or expensive to use. Because of this trend in choice, more and more companies are choosing to provide such services on their flights. The latest to throw their hat into the fray is Jet Blue. JetBlue is planning to launch in-flight WI-Fi in the first quarter of 2013. They will be able to provide baseline service in over two dozen jets by 2013. The most popular way to provide service are the Gogo Inflight Internet, OnAir, and Row 44 options. Gogo Inflight Internet has 92 skyward-pointing towers that cover North America. OnAir uses broadband satellite receivers for InMarsat’s 4G system. Row 44 is much like OnAir and uses HughesNet satellite Internet access, enabling provisions for worldwide services over land and water. JetBlue has stated it will utilize satellite-based services. It will partner with ViaSat. JetBlue noted the method will offer “exponentially more bandwidth” than competitors. Many airlines in the US that offer in-flight internet make use of Gogo Inflight Internet. The system has notable limitations given that they rely on stationary towers on the ground. ViaSat makes use of Ka-Band satellite systems, which surpasses speeds of peer satellite systems. Data speeds for the JetBlue version are not yet known. ViaSat’s Exede Internet Service will promise 13Mbps or more for each passenger, thus JetBlue will likely offer something near the same quality. Blogs By Women Offers Advice To New Bloggers

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) Austin, TX -- Blogging, defined as web site that contains a writer's own experiences, observations or opinions, is continuing to grow in popularity according to online analysts Nielsen in a recent report. They report that this form of communication is being driven largely by the well-educated woman between the age of 18 and 34, with 1/3 of them being mothers. This statistic comes as no surprise to Jennifer English, creator of Blogs By Women (http://www.blogsbywomen.org), a directory of women's blogs from all over the world. "We are delighted at the increasing rate at which women are creating blogs, and at the increasing rate at which blogs are being submitted to the directory, and most definitely at the increasing rate at which journalists are contacting many of our amazing listed bloggers for comments, interviews, and story ideas." Currently linking readers to over 3,000 blogs in over a dozen languages, Blogs by Women was designed to promote all aspects of women's thoughts and opinions from blogs about philosophy and religion to family and parenting. "We have 28 different categories a blog can fall into." Says English. "Each blog is approved by hand to keep low quality blogs, splogs and those stinky boys out." The directory serves a purpose in a large Internet world where the smaller blog could get lost in the sea of blogs available. According to English, "Bloggers come to us wondering how to promote a blog or where to submit a blog so that they can get readers. The quality of the directory is kept high and as a consequence, is considered an authority site by both search engines and humans. Traffic has consistently grown to over double last year's figures. For many women bloggers, we are the answer to their traffic issues." "Most of these women, while educated, are not experts in SEO or blog advertising techniques to get their blogs read. They come to us to answer questions like how to advertise your blog. We offer them an outlet to have their blogs read alongside other quality blogs. What this means to the blogger is that a high quality link to their blog will help them get found by both the search engines and visitors faster." Explains English. "Because we look at so many blogs before including them in our directory, we know what works and what doesn't on a blog site. We offer advice to those who are just starting out, so that they can have the best blog possible." About Blogs By Women Created by Jennifer English in 2005, this directory of high quality women's blogs covers women's issues such as health, lifestyle, blog advice and more. (EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) Plainfield, IN – The Plainfield Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard says cleaning dryer vents is the number one way to eliminate a fire hazard and improve dryer performance. More than 17,000 dryer fires are reported each year with most of them caused by failure to clean dryer vents. The history of National Fire Prevention Month, observed in October, goes back to the Great Chicago Fire which occurred October 9, 1871. Such disasters often lead to campaigns that promote public awareness on prevention and safety. Glen Mayfield, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard (http://www.dryerventcleaningplainfieldin.com/) is concerned about people who think it is normal for an older dryer to take more than one cycle to dry a load of clothing. Many are unaware that this is a warning sign of a potential fire hazard. Carmel Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard Visits the Appliance Doctor on WAAM Talk 1600

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) Carmel IN – The local Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard was recently interviewed by Joe Gagnon, the Appliance Doctor on WAAM Talk 1600. Joe Gagnon is an active consumer advocate and appliance repair guru with over 20 year’s experience. He discussed dryer fire prevention with Glen Mayfield, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard. Dryer Vent Wizard (http://www.indianapolisdryerductcleaning.com/) specializes in dryer vent inspection, dryer vent cleaning, repair and installation service while educating consumers about dryer maintenance to prevent fires and save energy. In an effort to increase public awareness to prevent dryer fires, Mayfield explains how important proper dryer maintenance is. The number one problem he addresses is increased drying time which is typically the first indicator that there is a venting problem. Dryer vent cleaning is usually the solution to speed up drying time and improve overall dryer performance. Glen told a true story from the field as he detailed one occasion where a customer had a tin foil vent that had come loose and deposited lint above the ceiling. There was also an exposed wire nearby that generated a spark and ignited the lint. It was very lucky the Wizard was there to put out the fire and call the fire department to make sure the home was safe. Once he got the “okay” he was able to replace the faulty dryer vent system and get the lint out! Glen Mayfield explains to all his customers that flexible foil or vinyl dryer ducts are not designed for the extreme heat produced by a clothes dryer. These venting kits sold in local hardware stores are fine for a bathroom exhaust fan, but should not be used for the dryer (even if the package indicates different). Dryer Vent Wizard only installs metal dryer vent systems that meet current safety codes. Wizards across the US work to educate customers about dryer fire prevention and energy savings while performing an important home service. Professional dryer vent installation and regularly scheduled dryer vent cleaning by the Wizard makes dryers safer and greener. Glen Mayfield serves the Central Indiana area, Indianapolis, Carmel, Zionsville, Westfield and surrounding cities and communities. Visit http://www.dryerventcleaningcarmelindiana.com/ to learn more. Indianapolis Dryer Vent Repair Wizard Extinguishes Dryer Fire During Inspection

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 20, 2012 ) Indianapolis, IN – The Indianapolis Dryer Vent Cleaning Wizard showed up at the customer’s home just in time to put out a dryer lint fire! During a dryer vent inspection he noticed that there was no air coming out of one of the lower level dryer vents. The dryer vent repair technician knew there was a serious problem. Glen Mayfield, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard (http://www.dryerventcleaningindianapolis.org/) finds a problem with most dryer vent system inspections. Dryer Vent Wizard specializes in commercial and residential dryer vent cleaning, dryer vent repair and new dryer vent installation. When Glen looked up into the drop ceiling, he discovered the problem. A break in the dryer vent line was depositing lint into the space rather than sending it out through the vent. Dryer vent repair would be necessary to replace the flexible foil venting with a rigid metal elbow. Though failure to clean dryer vents is the major cause of dryer fires, faulty dryer vents can also be hazardous. Dryer vent repair and new dryer vent installation by a qualified dryer exhaust technician will ensure dryer safety. While installing the new code compliant rigid dryer vent system Mayfield noticed an exposed wire in the ceiling had created a spark and caught the lint on fire! Flames were shooting across the false ceiling and were spreading rapidly. He quickly called the fire department and temporarily put out the fire. Firefighters arrived to finish the job and prevent the flames from reaching the living area of the home. The customer thanked the Wizard for saving their home. They were most relieved because the fire occurred very close to their children’s play area. If the fire had started at any other time it may have been a total loss for the family. Professional dryer vent cleaning and new dryer vent installation by the Wizard saved the customer’s home and made their dryer safer and more energy efficient. The customer agreed to have a complete inspection and cleaning performed every 6 months to be safe. Education is a vital part of the Wizard’s service and this was a great day for Glen Mayfield who gained a loyal customer while making another dryer in his neighborhood safer and greener. Wizards across the nation work hard to raise public awareness about the importance of dryer vent cleaning and professional dryer vent installation.
